1st January Signing: £35m striker transfer to Chelsea confirmed by Blues boss

Chelsea assistant coach Gianfranco Zola has confirmed the club are interested in signing Callum Wilson from Bournemouth in January.

The 26-year-old has scored eight goals in the Premier League this season, as well as registering a further five assists.

Wilson marked his England debut with a goal in last month’s 3-0 win over USA at Wembley and has been linked with a £35million move to west London.

‘I’m sure there are a lot of players linked with us,’ said Zola.

‘Certainly Callum Wilson is doing very well for that club. He is of interest not only for us but for many.’

Manager Maurizio Sarri remains unconvinced by the credentials of Spain international Alvaro Morata who missed last weekend’s win over Brighton with an ankle injury and will be unavailable for several games over the busy Holiday fixtures.

Olivier Giroud, meanwhile, has scored just once in the Premier League this season with Eden Hazard preferred in a false nine role for the recent wins over Manchester City and Brighton.
