3 assists, 4 key passes: £67.5m-rated Spain ace proves he would take Chelsea to the next level

Marco Asensio’s Real Madrid future was a talking point during the summer transfer window.

In the end, though, the attack-minded star stayed put despite being linked to a host of Premier League clubs, including Chelsea.

The uncertainty over Eden Hazard’s future at Stamford Bridge led to suggestions that Asensio should be on the Blues’ wishlist.

Even though the Belgian international stayed with the west London club, a future move for Asensio should not be ruled out.

The 22-year-old’s performance for Spain against Croatia in the Nations League on Tuesday night was the biggest indicator that Chelsea would benefit from having him in the side.

The night was an accomplished one for La Roja as they overcome World Cup finalists Croatia 6-0.

As well as getting on the scoresheet, Asensio contributed three assists and also produced more key passes than any of his teammates.

The Madrid man was heavily involved in attack as he recorded the most crosses than any other player in a Spain shirt.

Asensio predominantly plays on the right wing, but his versatility can take him to the other side of the pitch or as a number 10.

Willian, Pedro and Hazard currently occupy those positions, and while the latter is likely to keep his place, Asensio is certainly good enough to challenge the wide men.
