Talented goalkeeper and Chelsea target Gianluigi Donnaruma could be making the switch to England with his deal at AC Milan expiring in the summer.
It was no secret over the course of the summer transfer window that Chelsea were very interested in trying to secure a transfer deal for the big Italian before they opted to complete a deal for Edouard Mendy.
But Chelsea’s interest has remained in the Italian this season, especially as there is constant speculation about his future at the Italian giants, and the fact that he has not agreed a new contract to extend his stay beyond the current season.
Despite his tender years, the 21-year-old has been the club’s first choice between the sticks for some time, and looks set to fill the role of the Italian national team’s long-term successor to Gianluigi Buffon.
And with the transfer window opening in just a few days time, it will give the Chelsea board the opportunity to try and open talks with the agents of Donnarumma, knowing that they are in a very good position to offer the young man a big contract ahead of the summer.
Mendy has been brilliant this season, but Chelsea need to add something special to the stopper area, and considering Donnarumma is tipped to become one of the very best stoppers in world football, he is certainly a player that would be a massive signing for the Chelsea board.
However, Milan are confident that they will be able to keep Donnarumma at the club, and will be hoping that Chelsea dont come calling in the January window, as it would mean there plans and contract offer would need to improve massively.
