BREAKING: Chelsea’s defensive rock signs new deal

According to reports on the club’s official website this afternoon, Chelsea defender Millie Bright has signed a new three-year deal with the Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions.

The 26-year-old Killamarsh-born centre-back has been a model of consistency for Chelsea since joining the club in 2015.

Bright has been at the heart of all of Chelsea successes throughout manager Emma Hayes’ reign in charge of the South West Londoners.

The defender has guided Chelsea to three league titles, including the 2017 FA Women’s Super League 1 Spring Series, two Women’s FA Cups and the FA Women’s Continental League Cup during her time with The Blues.

With Chelsea set to defend their Barclays FA Women’s Super League crown and challenge for European glory in the UEFA Women’s Champions League this season, Bright is again expected to play a key role for The Blues. It has today been confirmed that the player has signed a contract extension until summer 2023.

Bright started her career close to home with South Yorkshire side Doncaster Rovers Belles. She joined Chelsea ahead of the 2015 FA Women’s Super League 1 season. She was an ever-present for Hayes’ side in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League last season, netting her only goal in November’s 6-0 demolition of Birmingham City.
