BREAKING: Lampard ready to turn Loftus-Cheek into striker

Ruben Loftus-Cheek could become a solution to Chelsea’s No.9 problem, the Sun claims. According to the media outlet, Frank Lampard is mulling over an idea of turning the 23-year-old into a striker.

This would not be a totally new idea, because Loftus-Cheek as deployed there in Antonio Conte’s first season at the club, 2016/17. He has barely performed this role since then, though.

The midfielder did prove to be a goal threat in the games that were given to him by Maurizio Sarri. In 35 games in all competitions, Lotus-Cheek scored 10 goals including a hat-trick against BATE Borisov in a Europa League fixture.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has stepped up his recovery from an Achilles injury, but his return is not expected until November.

The Chelsea academy graduate has signed a new five-year deal with his club this summer, underlining his desire to become an important part of the Blues.

“At eight or nine years old, of course, you never think you’ll be here for so long because you just want to enjoy yourself and play with your friends,” he told the club’s official website at the time.

“When I look back and see how the hard work has paid off, it’s a good feeling. That only makes me want to work harder to achieve more in the future.

“I hope to win a lot more trophies with the team and personally it’s just about trying to do as well as I can and work hard to be a key player for Chelsea.”
