Bundesliga 6 ft 3 defender linked with surprise move to Chelsea

According to reports, Chelsea are set to swoop for Germany centre-half Matthias Ginter – who has been hailed as the new Sergio Ramos.

However, Chelsea have already signed striker Timo Werner and playmaker Kai Havertz from the Bundesliga this year. But chief Frank Lampard is now ready to make an offer for Borussia Moenchengladbach defender Ginter.

The 26-year-old star has been likened to Real Madrid legend Sergio by Germany World Cup-winning skipper and ex-Sun Sport columnist Lothar Mattheus.

He told Sky Sports Germany: “Ginter has become a leader at the back, in a similar way to Ramos at Real.

“He doesn’t just give instructions to his team-mates, but leads them as well. That’s what Ginter is doing really well at the moment. He reminds me of Ramos.”

The Blues could grab Ginter for just £30 million in January. The West Londoners have already spent over £200 million this year.

Frank has strengthened his defence by bringing in the 36-year-old Brazil centre-back Thiago Silva. But Lampard wants another defender and hopes to off-load Antonio Rudiger, who could return to Bundesliga after a loan move to Spurs fell through in the summer.

Ginter moved to Gladbach three years ago after failing to hold down a starting spot at Borussia Dortmund. Matthias came through the ranks at FC Freiburg.

The German star has made over 110 appearances for Gladbach, helping them qualify for the UEFA Champions League. The player also has nine goals.
