Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta to set this ‘massive’ record against Manchester City

With Reece James to sit out Sunday’s home game against Manchester City, Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta will be given a start against Pep Guardiola’s side.

The game will mark Azpilicueta’s 400th appearance for the Blues in all competitions, setting him among a class of legends for the club.

If he features in the game, Azpilicueta will now become the 13th on Chelsea’s all-time appearance list, to mark how much of a loyal servant he has been for the club.

Azpilicueta joined Chelsea in 2012, and has won two Premier League titles, two FA Cups, a League Cup, and two Europa League trophies.

Meanwhile, Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta has admitted that he was at least pleased with the character of the team in the game against Villa.

“We needed a reaction after Saturday’s performance but we’re disappointed not to get the three points,” Azpilicueta said.

“We talked about showing more character because we were very disappointed with the result and the performance [against Arsenal]. We were far from the level this group has shown a few weeks ago.

“From the first minute, the team competed well. We pushed until the end to get the three points but we couldn’t find a way.”
