Chelsea fear Eden Hazard could return to Stamford Bridge after Real Madrid report

According to Daily Mail, Chelsea are worried that they won’t get the money they are owed for Eden Hazard by Real Madrid.

After a protracted saga lasting several seasons, the Blues eventually agreed to let the Belgian join Madrid last summer for a fee that the Mail cite as £90m, but that could rise to £130m with add ons included.

However as all deals are spread over multiple years, and contain numerous incentives and bonuses, only a fraction of that cash has so far been paid. This is a problem around the Premier League, with many clubs balancing their budgets around the incoming steady stream of cash from past sales.

Chelsea are in a strong position thanks to their independently wealthy owner, but still can’t afford to miss out on any money they’re owed if they’re intending to replace the former Lille man in the next window, whenever that may be.

This is a serious issue for Chelsea, but non-payment of transfer fees is going to be a football-wide problem, and they won’t be the only ones trying to put things straight. It looks likely FIFA will have to step in and do their best to ensure everything runs smoothly.
