Chelsea will reportedly bid £65M for AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker in the event that Thibaut Courtois moves to Real Madrid.
You will be familiar with the situation at this point. Courtois has just one-year remaining on his contract with Chelsea. His family still live in Madrid from his time on-loan with Atletico, and Real have been heavily linked with making a move to sign him this summer.
Courtois’ departure would not be the end of the world if he was replaced adequately. There are few goalkeepers in the world anywhere near the Belgian’s level, but Alisson is one of them.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has claimed that Chelsea will move to sign Alisson if Courtois does depart this summer. Sheth is quoted by the Daily Star saying:
If we wait for Courtois to leave before hunting a replacement, we risk surrendering our bargaining power. Roma will know of our desperation and use that to their advantage.
Though, we can’t risk having two superstar goalkeepers on our books at once. That’d be equally problematic.
