Chelsea Have €90m Bid Rejected, Club Hoping For Nearer €100m Mark

Chelsea have had a combined €90M bid rejected for Juventus pair Daniele Rugani and Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports in Italy.

Premium Sport have claimed that Juventus snubbed the €90M proposal, hoping for a figure nearer the €100M mark in exchange for the pair.

We don’t doubt that these two players are targets for the club. Both have worked alongside Maurizio Sarri before and would strengthen the squad.

However, we have to question the accuracy of this particular report.

While attempting to recruit Maurizio Sarri and Jorginho, Chelsea dealt with it as though they were two separate deals.

This is despite negotiations being held with the same club. It’s common practice to deal with each transfer individually.

This is due to the fact that the majority of transfer fees are not paid upfront, rather in performance related add-ons or as part of an instalment plan.

Rugani and Higuain are at two very different points in their careers, there will likely be a considerable difference in the length of contracts they would (hypothetically) sign.

It’s a lot easier to stagger the payments if each case is dealt with individually, especially in cases like this.

Alternatively, Premium Sport might be spot on and we’ll be left looking like mugs. We shall see…
