Chelsea ‘in direct contact’ with Germans about £68 million deal to upset rivals Liverpool

It’s no longer news that Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen on strengthening his attack during the summer transfer window. The Blues boss wants a striker, and Chelsea tried getting a new striker in January all to no avail.

The Blues have been linked with a move for the likes of Timo Werner, Edinson Cavani, Victor Osimhen and Dries Mertens.

Werner has been in excellent form for Leipzig this season with 27 goals in 36 appearances so far, but Liverpool are believed to be the front-runners for his signature.

Werner has a £52m release clause in his deal with Leipzig, and reports in Germany claim Chelsea have made direct contact with Timo Werner’s camp to discuss a deal for the RB Leipzig striker.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher however believes that Liverpool may find it difficult to sign the German striker this summer.

“Timo Werner to Liverpool?” questioned Carragher during a question-and-answer session on Instagram.

“It looked nailed on before the situation we’re in now so it may affect transfers this summer. “It may have to be put on the back burner, maybe for the following summer.”
