Chelsea loaned Midfielder returns to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker has returned to Stamford Bridge after his loan spell at Fortuna Dusseldorf was cut short by the German club.

However, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Chelsea have agreed to end Lewis Baker’s loan early,” the Bundesliga side announced on their Twitter account.

“The 24-year-old midfielder will leave Fortuna with immediate effect and return to his parent club.” Lewis Baker made 8 Bundesliga appearances during his time on loan at Dusseldorf.

This was Lewis’ seventh loan of his professional Chelsea career, previously spending time with Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons, Vitesse, Middlesbrough, Reading, and Leeds United.

Meanwhile, Dusseldorf manager Friedhelm Funkel had accused Baker of going AWOL ahead of their last game before the Bundesliga’s winter break.

He said: “He’s in London and supposedly sick, I can’t check that. Normally he would have been here. I don’t know what the reason is that he isn’t here.

“What I do know is that Lewis Baker wasn’t in the squad against Union Berlin [before Christmas] and should have trained with the others at ten in the morning.”
