Chelsea Player ratings vs Newcastle- James excellent but Kepa Struggles

It was a heartbreaking defeat for Chelsea as a stoppage time goal from Isaac Hayden ensured the Magpies took all three points at the St James Park.

See the player ratings for this game below:

Kepa: Had nothing to do for most part of the game except to pick the ball out of his net right at the death. Could have done a bit more to save that late goal. 5/10

Reece James: Was quite dangerous in the first-half with some good deliveries, but pulled off in the second half through injury. 6/10

Christensen: Had a good game and never lost concentration all game. Unfortunate to be on the losing side. 6/10

Rudiger: Gave the ball away a couple of times but was strong in defence nevertheless. Was having a decent game until he lost Isaac Hayden in stoppage time for Newcastle to score. 5/10

Azpilicueta: Made some good forward runs down the left but wasn’t comfortable crossing the ball with his left foot. 5/10

Jorginho: Struggled to find his forward men as Newcastle sat deep and covered the spaces. Had lots of the ball but no penetration. 5/10

Kante: Had a good chance in the first-half but fired straight at the keeper. Worked very hard in the middle of the park. 6/10

Mount: Lacked creativity when he had the ball. Wasn’t just his day. 4/10

Willian: Probably one of his worst games in a Chelsea shirt. His tricks didn’t work and he seemed to lose his confidence in the second half. 4/10

Hudson-Odoi: Lacked effect in the first-half but got better in the second period. However, no end product from his attacking play. 5/10

Abraham: No clear-cut chance for the striker as he had to feed from craps. Worked hard upfront at times. 6/10

Substitutes

Barkley: Added spark to the team after coming on for Mount. 6/10

Emerson: His end product was missing but he seemed to inject some spark into the attack after coming on. 5/10

Batshuayi: Came on late for Tammy Abraham but didn’t have an impact.
