According to a source in France, Chelsea look to be closing in on one of major transfers for whenever the window next opens, with the move for Lille defender Gabriel “very hot”.
The Eurosport reporter says that Everton are also interested, but that the move to Chelsea is “almost complete.”
Of course the uncertainty about when football can resume and how the transfer system will work is still a major factor in any deal.
He’s really settled in his second season in Ligue Un, and his trajectory since coming out of Brazil has been extremely promising. He played in both Champions League group games against Chelsea this season, and at 22 looks like he can get even better.
He signed a new deal in February, but still looks like he will be moving this summer. Everton were apparently very close, but we may have pipped them at the post and secured one of Europe’s brightest central defensive prospects.
