Chelsea set to sign 28-year old star after tabling an offer, with club chief accepting to lose him

According to reports, Chelsea are all clear to sign defender David Alaba as Bayern Munich executive Karl-Heinze Rummenigge has insisted that the club are likely to lose the full-back, with the Blues tabling a formal offer.

The 28-year old will be out of contract at the end of the season – having already declined a new contract worth around £190,000-a-week, and despite being an important player for the Bundesliga club, he could depart the European Champions anytime soon.

This had led to speculations that Chelsea are one of the few clubs that are interested in securing a deal for the Austrian international, and would begin talks about bringing him to Stamford Bridge in January.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have submitted a formal offer to David Alaba, with Rummenigge declaring that the club could lose the left-back in the coming transfer window.

He said: “We had a lot of talks and we needed answers from him by the end of October, but that didn’t happen and I don’t know if he will return to discussions.

“What I want to clear is that the club’s offer showed exactly how much we value David, but he didn’t accept it”.
