CONFIRMED: Chelsea to pay player £5million just to sit on the bench

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia will have a lot of thinking to do before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Following the arrival of Edouard Mendy from Rennes, Kepa Arrizabalaga is no longer Chelsea’s no.1 goalkeeper and the Blues reportedly want to ship out the Spaniard.

According to The Sun, no club is willing to meet Chelsea’s asking price of £60million for Kepa and no one wants to take him on loan either if it means that they have to pay his reported £150,000 per week salary.

The only way Chelsea could realistically get Kepa out before the transfer window closes on Monday would be to agree to pay at least half his wages.

But even then the interest is limited, so it is growing increasingly Chelsea will have to pay the Spaniard £5million across the 2020/21 campaign just to sit on the bench.
