Deal Close: Chelsea on the verge to agree £40m deal for 6 ft 4 Premier League defender

According to Sky Sport, Chelsea have reportedly made an approach to secure services of Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back Lewis Dunk.

As they bid to strengthen their defensive end ahead of the net season, the West London club have previously been rumoured with a £40m offer for Ben White, who starred on loan at newly-promoted Premier League club, Leeds United last season.

However, with Brighton said to have no intention of selling the prospect, it appears that Frank Lampard has switched his attention to another Brighton defender Dunk, a player valued at the same price.

According to The Sun, the Blues are pressing ahead with their effort to secure the services of the 28-year-old, who is a boyhood fan of Chelsea.

Despite rival interest from the Spurs Dunk allegedly expects to finalise a switch to Stamford Bridge in the nearby future.

However, Dunk has been part of the Brighton first team since 2009, playing a total of 306 games in all competitions.
