Despite his goal, Tuchel reveals why he’s not happy with Kai Havertz performances against Crystal Palace

Kai Havertz was in fine form for Chelsea as the Blues defeated Crystal Palace 4-1 at Selhurst Park on Saturday evening.

It was a brilliant first 45 minutes from Chelsea, as the Blues were 3-0 up at half-time. Kai Havertz had a good half with a goal and an assist in the first half.

For all of Kai Havertz brilliance, he could easily have scored a hat-trick against Palace, but missed two glittering chances that could have added to Chelsea’s lead.

Speaking after the game, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel hailed the team’s display, as well as the hunger shown by his players to score. But he wasn’t too pleased with the missed chances by Kai Havertz, and backed the German to do better next time.

“Clearly we had many chances today,” Tuchel told Sky Sports. “The guys were hungry and creative. We had a lot of good runs and good movement. We put pressure on ourselves to have the right response. It was a step in the right direction.

“I am not disappointed [with Kai Havertz] but he could have actually scored more. He had two big chances to finish the game off. This is the way.

“He has absolute quality. He needs to show his quality and that is the challenge for him.”
