Eden Hazard sends message to Man City forward Raheem Sterling

Eden Hazard has sent a message of support to Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling after the England forward was targeted by Chelsea supporters during Saturday’s Premier League game at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea last night confirmed four people have been suspended from attending matches while an investigation into alleged racist abuse of the 23-year-old takes place.

“Chelsea finds all forms of discriminatory behaviour abhorrent and, if there is evidence of ticket holders taking part in any racist behaviour, the club will issue severe sanctions, including bans,” a statement by the four-time Premier League champions said. “We will also fully support any criminal prosecutions.”

Sterling has received widespread backing after he called out sections of the media for fuelling racism and Hazard has also thrown his weight behind City’s No.7.

“I support the player because, to be fair, Sterling is a fantastic player. I think it’s under investigation, so we don’t know what can happen,” Chelsea’s Belgian winger said.

“They (the abusers) are called fans but for me they’re not fans. I think the proper Chelsea fans sing for Chelsea and just enjoy the game.

“I fully support Raheem and this type of racism can’t be in the stadium anymore. If he has something to say he will say it. As a player if I’m in this situation I will say something.

“It happens sometimes in football, not just in England but everywhere, and it needs to stop.”

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta added: “Even if it’s a player that plays in another team, we obviously stand with all the players that go against this discrimination because we don’t accept it at all.”
