Father of talented Belgian forward reveals interest from Chelsea

Jeremy Doku could have joined Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea two years ago, according to the players father.

Belgian attacker became one of the biggest prospects in his country after debuting for Anderlecht at the age of 16. He has found back of the net four times in 24 appearances for them last campaign.

Over the summer, there were reports claiming Liverpool had outlined him as a top transfer target as Jurgen Klopp reportedly viewed him as a long-term successor to Sadio Mane.

However, Doku eventually moved to Ligue 1 outfits, Rennes instead. He signed a five-year deal after the clubs agreed a deal worth an initial €26m.

It meant there would be no Premier League football for Doku at this stage. However, the players agent and father has now confirmed that English teams were interested in his signature has stemmed back even further than the summer just gone – and Liverpool were not the only suitors.

“Two years ago we went to England and visited Liverpool and Arsenal,” David Doku told Gazet van Antwerpen (via Sport Witness).

“We ran out of time for Chelsea, but that interest was never so concrete.”

The Belgian newspaper adds that the Citizens were another contender for his services, as well as Dutch giants PSV and Ajax.
