Finally, Lampard reveals why he starts Pulisic against Manchester City

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard dropped Christian Pulisic from the starting line-up for the game against Aston Villa, and the American came on to score and help Chelsea come from behind to beat the Villans.

However, for the game against Manchester City, Pulisic was introduced to the starting line-up.

Frank Lampard made two changes to the team that defeated Villa, with Pulisic and Ross Barkley coming on to help from the start this time.

Explaining his decision ahead of kick-off, Lampard told BT Sport before kick-off: “With Christian, I felt before Villa, he could impact the day and start this game.

“Ross has also come in. Ross was unfortunate not to start the first game and came in and made the difference himself.” Lampard also refused to take credit in Liverpool winning the title as he believes that the Reds have won the league months ago.

Lampard said: “I don’t mean to kill it tonight. I think Liverpool won the league pretty much months ago. Their performances this year have been outstanding, and I’m not trying to take it away when they win it.

“They should celebrate because they’ve had some unbelievable performances, summed up by their performance last night a little bit. That’s for them to celebrate whenever and for us to try and win the game ourselves.”
