Five ‘strong’ changes Lampard set to make against Aston Villa tonight

Chelsea play host to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Monday evening, exactly 48 hours after the defeat to Arsenal.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has admitted that he’d ring a lot of changes to his side that was beaten by Arsenal, as he also needs his players to rest and then inject fresh energy to the side.

There are at least five players we are expecting Lampard to start against Villa. Fullbacks Cesar Azpilicueta and Emerson Palmieri will be given playing opportunity for this game, while Reece James and Ben Chilwell who had a poor game following their injury return against Arsenal will be rested.

Centre-back Thiago Silva is also expected to be rested, while Antonio Rudiger makes a return to the team.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Olivier Giroud are also expected to make a start in this game. There may also be a start for Billy Gilmour and Kai Havertz in midfield, Timo may be rested as well.

“There will be some changes,” Lampard has said ahead of the game.

“I knew that anyway and I am certainly not going to bang the drum about the quick turnaround [between the games] after our performance at Arsenal, it is not the important point, but playing two days later we have to make changes anyway and some of those will now happen as well because of how that game went.

“People have to come in and inject the energy and personality that is in our performances normally. The reason we went so many games unbeaten was because of that, and we have come off that, and we have to get back on it quickly.”
