According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have the “first option” on Lyon striker Moussa Dembele, Both the Blues and Manchester United have been heavily linked with the 23-year-old and it appears the Red Devils will have a major battle on their hands if they want to sign the forward.
A first option doesn’t mean that much in practice, but if United do decide to make a formal offer for Dembele, Lyon will be obligated to inform Chelsea of the price so that the London club can match it.
Dembele is in high demand after an excellent season in France, having scored 22 goals in 42 appearances. The former Celtic striker is reportedly valued at £60m but the suspension of football fixtures will impact on the finances of certain clubs.
Lyon may well lower their asking price if they do need to bring in revenue, but as things stand, it appears neither United nor Chelsea have yet to make a concrete offer for the Frenchman.
