In-form Chelsea forward edging towards return to fitness following ankle injury

In-form Chelsea forward Fran Kirby could be available for selection for the club’s December fixture schedule with the player making good progress in her comeback from an ankle injury according to reports on The Blues’ official website.

The 27-year-old enjoyed an explosive start to the season but her progress has recently been halted after Kirby sustained an ankle injury whilst with England during the last international break in October.

Chelsea fans will have feared the worst after manager Hayes initially indicated that Kirby would be sidelined for ‘weeks’, however, the latest update from The Blues boss has brought better news with the forward expected to be well on her way to a return to fitness by the end of next week.

The update does mean that Kirby will miss Sunday’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Arsenal and the midweek match against London City Lionesses in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup but the player could return following the upcoming international break.

Kirby has started four matches for Chelsea in this season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League while she has scored three goals. Only Erin Cuthbert has provided more assists than the England international so far this season.

After losing most of her 2019/2020 campaign through illness, Kirby made her return for The Blues in August’s FA Women’s Community Shield as Chelsea defeated Manchester City at Wembley.
