Lampard admits he wants Frenchman at Chelsea and makes promise ahead of January window

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has promised late Olivier Giroud more game time after the France striker admitted he was “concerned” over his lack of minutes.

Giroud has once again been in the transfer headlines over the past few weeks after he came out and admitted that e may have to leave the club in the coming transfer window in order to get more game time.

There have been a number of clubs that have reportedly shown some kind of interest in the Frenchman, especially as they know that he is well down the pecking order at Chelsea and would be open to a move.

However, Giroud’s stoppage-time header clinched a 2-1 win in Rennes to put the Blues into the Champions League KO stages with two group games to spare – and Lampard has opened up and promised the striker that he will be given more minutes, as he wants him to stay at the club.

Lampard told BT Sport: “Oli will get his minutes because we have a busy schedule, we play every few days.

“I made a few changes because I felt he had to get the freshness in the team.

“I think the reason you see such a reaction around the goal, not only was it in the last minute but someone like Oli you see how he acts day in, day out and it shows you what he means to this team.”

Giroud may not be a striker that is able to net 20-goals a season but he does offer the club something different up top, so keeping him until at least the end of the season would be a very good idea for the Blues to make.
