Lampard gives ‘massive verdict’ on Christensen’s red card against Liverpool

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen was sent off in the 2-0 loss to Liverpool after bringing down Sadio Mane who was through on goal.

Referee Paul Tierney originally gave Christensen a yellow card for his foul on Mane but that was upgraded to a red after the official was advised to check the pitch-side monitor by VAR.

Speaking about the red card shown to Christensen, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard said:

“I think it could be given or not. I was perhaps surprised it was given as a yellow first. If it was given as a red straight away, you continue with that.”

Christensen is the first player to be sent off in a Premier League fixture between Chelsea and Liverpool since Lampard saw red in 2009.
