Lampard sends ‘massive message’ to Thiago Silva and Marcos Alonso after making HUGE mistake against West-Brom

It wasn’t a good debut game for new Chelsea signing Thiago Silva, as he got his first taste of Premier League football.

The 36-year-old Brazilian was signed to bring calmness and experience to the Chelsea defence, but he made a huge mistake leading to West Brom’s second goal. He gifted Callum Robinson with an easy chance as he charged through to fire past Willy Caballero to double West Brom’s lead.

Chelsea were stunned by three goals in the firsthalf, with Marcos Alonso’s errors responsible for the Baggies first and third goal.

Speaking after the game, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard revealed his disappointment at the team’s errors which led to West Brom scoring three quick goals in the first half.

“Thiago one is a mistake,” Lampard told Sky Sports after the match. “He’s been there long enough to know one, we’ll certainly give him that one in his first game.

“And then Marcos loses his man from the third goal from the corner. It was mistakes, clear mistakes [that cost us].

“You can have as many meetings as you want but with those mistakes you give yourself a mountain to climb. [We lacked] a bit if urgency in the team.”
