Lampard ‘Wants’ Chelsea to seal £50m transfer in coming days as club step up recruitment drive

According to the Daily Star, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard “wants” his club to sign Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope.

After omitting Kepa Arrizabalaga once again from the starting line up for the FA Cup final, Lampard is keen on the Blues landing a new number one.

The Daily Star reports that his “first choice” is Pope, who has been in excellent form for the Clarets this season, having kept 15 clean sheets in the Premier League.

However, Sean Dyche’s side are likely to demand a sizeable sum for the 28-year-old, with the keeper believed to have a £50m asking price.

That would be a steep figure, considering the likes of Ajax’s Andre Onana are available for around €30m (£27m) this summer.

Pope is thought to be interested in a move to Stamford Bridge but he may have to be patient with Chelsea currently focused on sealing a deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.
