Lampard warned Abramovich might sack him if he loses this key match

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has been warned that he doesn’t have much time to prove himself this season.

Lampard was hailed for using a young Chelsea side to finish in the top four last season, especially without signing any player and the loss of Eden Hazard.

The Blues boss was however backed massively by the Chelsea board during the summer transfer window, and Paul Merson has now warned Lampard that he won’t have much time this season.

According to Paul Merson, Lampard’s job may no longer be safe if he’s beaten by Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

He told Starsport: “I think this is a big match for Frank now against Manchester United.

“A few days ago you were thinking this was a big week for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. ‘You were wondering whether he’d survive it. But three late goals at Newcastle and a great performance against PSG and everything has changed.

“Now, all of a sudden the pressure is on Lampard. His side drew 3-3 with Southampton and then couldn’t score against Sevilla.

“Chelsea have already lost big games this season. If he loses this game there will be serious questions asked.

“I don’t think he’s going to get loads of time this season because of all the money they’ve spent, and he needs to start getting it right.”
