Leicester’s top man tipped to be headed by Chelsea owner Abramovich

Jamie Carragher believes Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers could be headed for the Chelsea job, should Frank Lampard ever get the sack.

Lampard was brought to the club last season and since his move back to the club, he has brought a sense of optimism and excitement, with his Champions League and FA Cup final run being hailed as a great season for the Bleus last year.

But a sluggish start to this season had many people wondering if he was the right man for the job, which prompted the boss to change a few things, and now his Chelsea side are right in there for that Premier League title.

Rodgers has excelled at Leicester City, guiding the club to a fifth place finish last term and it is widely believed that the former Liverpool boss will be headed by one of the big clubs in the coming seasons, and Carragher believes he could make the ideal Chelsea boss one day.

“Brendan Rodgers is the best British coach out there, no doubt,” he said on Sky Sports

“Maybe you could argue that the Liverpool job came too early but I think he did a good job, coming closer than any manager to winning the League in 30 years. “He’s a fantastic coach, he’s done a great job at Leicester and I think his next job could be a Chelsea or an Arsenal.

“Maybe it would be difficult to go back to Liverpool or to coach Manchester United, given the Liverpool connection, but I think he’ll be up for the top jobs in this country, maybe England too.”

Right now Chelsea and Lampard are picking up the right kind of results playing the way that many were expecting, so there is no need to talk about a new manager just yet.

But if the day does comes and Chelsea do need a new coach, we would be very surprised to see Rodgers in the hot-seat at Chelsea.
