Lucas Piazon reveals why he chose Chelsea over Juventus in 2012

Lucas Piazon will spend the rest of the 2018/19 season on loan at Chievo. Despite joining Chelsea in 2012 from San Paolo, the Brazilian has featured in only three official games for The Blues.

In his recent interview with Calcio Mercato, the winger has opened up on his decision to move to Stamford Bridge seven years ago.

Piazon has revealed he had a chance to join Juventus instead of Chelsea in 2012:

“It’s true, at 17 they wanted me as well as Chelsea, but I chose the Premier League. In England I found myself in front of so many strong players and this made me realise that I had to work harder.”

The Brazilian, however, has no regrets over moving to Chelsea: “I have no regrets, I can’t say what player I would be today if I had taken a different path in the past.

As a boy, I followed the Italian league a lot and I imagined being in their place one day. I dreamed of being like Ronaldo.”

The move to the Serie A side is Piazon’s sixth loan spell during his career at Stamford Bridge. The 25-year-old has previously played for Fulham, Malaga, Vitesse, Eintracht Frankfurt and Reading. His most fruitful period was the 2013/14 season at Vitesse when he scored 12 goals and registered nine assists in 36 appearances.
