Manchester united defender warned Timo Werner will cause him nightmares

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has been in for some hot criticisms due to his defensive struggles, and the 27-year-old was absent when Manchester United produced a good defensive display to beat PSG in their Champions League tie on Tuesday.

Maguire missed United’s game against PSG due to injury, but is set to make a return to the squad for Saturday’s game at Old Trafford.

Former Chelsea right-back Glen Johnson has warned Maguire that Chelsea striker Timo Werner will have a field day against him if he plays in this game.

Asked whether he would recall Maguire to the side, ex-Chelsea defender Johnson told Optus Sport: “If I’m Timo Werner, I’d be like, ‘Please play him!’, I really would.

“I think he would be an absolute nightmare for him.

“But I agree, in the bigger picture, it’s hard to leave your captain out and obviously he’s a big player for them.

“But on that last performance, if I’m Tuanzebe, I’d be thinking: ‘Why aren’t I playing?’”
