Maurizio Sarri Confirms Decision Made On Chelsea’s New Club Captain

Maurizio Sarri has confirmed that he has decided who will replace Gary Cahill as Chelsea captain, but opted against revealing who it will be during his pre-Cardiff City press conference.

Sarri made it clear upon his arrival at Chelsea that a new captain would be elected to replace Cahill. Cesar Azpilicueta and Eden Hazard have been considered the front runners, with David Luiz and Cesc Fabregas dark horses.

Azpilicueta has captained Chelsea so far this season, but that may not be an indication that he’s Sarri’s number one choice. The Spaniard is Chelsea’s vice-captain, in Cahill’s absence, he steps into the role.

We are still very much in the dark, but Sarri has suggested that we will know the answer soon. Speaking to the press ahead of our clash with Cardiff, Sarri said:

“I have my idea, I have decided, but I would like to wait before I tell you my decision to speak with the players and the club. For the moment, the captain is Azpilicueta, I will tell you the final decision after I talk with the players and club.”

Who would you like to see be our next captain, Blues? Let us know in the comments.
