Owen: ‘Chelsea are good at qualifying out of the group stage’

Former Man United & Liverpool striker Michael Owen predicts a relatively easy way for Chelsea out of Group H in the Champions League.

The Blues have been drawn against Ajax, Valencia and Lille. Chelsea can get into the playoffs – they will not be the favourites there, but have a good chance to surprise.

Owen said: “Chelsea are good at qualifying out of the group stage.

Frank Lampard will be delighted to have the Champions League in his first big, big job.

“They’ve got some really good players. Of course, Hazard leaving is going to hurt them, especially at the latter stages at this level.

“But Tottenham showed last season you don’t have to be the absolute favourites, Ajax showed last season you don’t have to be the favourites to actually have a great competition.”
