PHOTOS: Chelsea open training at Stamford Bridge

As announced last month, Chelsea had a rare open training at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday in front of about 5000 fans, who filled the lower level of the West Stand.

Open trainings at the stadium are fairly rare events. We’re averaging about one every three years recently after similar events in 2009 (twice), 2012, and 2016.

Still better than regular training at Cobham, which is never open to the public, but a far from cry training at Harlington, which always was. But that just doesn’t happen in modern football anymore.

In any case, judging by the pictures, it was a fairly standard session featuring both on-the-ball technical and off-the-ball physical work, with plenty of intensity but some fun as well. Especially when Lampard got involved as well.

Joining the session were recovering trio Antonio Rüdiger, Willian, and Callum Hudson-Odoi. Michy Batshuayi and Tiémoué Bakayoko participated as well,

but Davide Zappacosta had already gone to AS Roma, so he did not. In his stead, U23/Development Squad right back Tariq Lamptey was called up, while U23/Development Squad captain Marc Guehi joined as well.

Chelsea have two more days of training this week before taking on Norwich City on Saturday at Carrow Road.
