REVEALED: Why AC Milan goalkeeper Donnarumma wants Chelsea move

Chelsea had identified AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma as a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga but the interest has cooled off in recent weeks following the club’s decision to stick with Kepa.

Kepa has struggled in goal for the Blues this season and even lost his place in the starting XI to Willy Caballero before he won back his place in Chelsea’s last two games before the league was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

AC Milan goalkeeper Donnarumma was reportedly open to joining Chelsea this summer and it seems wages had been a key factor in his decision to join Chelsea.

According to Daily Mail, Donnarumma earns around £5million at AC Milan and that is beyond the salary cap that owners Elliott Management want to introduce at the club.

Donnarumma is out of contract next summer and he reportedly has no desire to take a wage cut to extend his AC Milan contract due to the salary cap that could be introduced at the club.

Donnarumma has now spent five years at Milan having made his debut at just 16-years-old in 2015. He has played 26 times this term across all competitions, conceding 33 goals.
