REVEALED: Why Lampard is delaying Rudiger’s new contract

Rudiger has been in and out of the table of late and has come under intense criticisms for some of his recent displays.

However, Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has entered the last two years of his contract, but reports claim the club are yet to hold formal discussions over an extension to his current deal.

According to The Daily Mail, there’s uncertainty about the future of the German international at Chelsea, and there is growing doubt over Rudiger’s position in Frank Lampard’s plans, with little movement in terms of a new deal for the Germany international.

Rudiger has been Chelsea’s best central defender in recent years, but he hasn’t reached his best form since returning from a long-term injury.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have been urged by former Manchester City defender Micah Richards to sign new defenders, after the shambolic defensive display in the 3-0 loss to Sheffield United.

“Christensen, Zouma and Rudiger, I’m not one to criticise players but for the level they want to go to, they’re not good enough at this moment in time,” Richards told Sky Sports.

“They brought on Rudiger in the second half to sure things up and he ended up costing a goal. “I can understand Frank’s frustration there.”
