REVEALED: Why Werner removed himself from Leipzig’s Champions League squad

According to BILD, Timo Werner has withdrawn himself from Leipzig’s Champions League squad so he can settle with Chelsea in July.

This report might mean that Werner may be unable to feature in the remaining rounds of the Champions League.

However, Werner played a key role to help Leipzig reach the quarter-final of the competition, and the German side sent Tottenham packing in the second round.

The German forward has a deal agreed in principle with Chelsea and is expected to sign a 5-year deal with the Blues.

Werner’s absence from Leipzig’s Champions League squad doesn’t mean that he’d be able to feature for Chelsea in the competition this season.

The Champions League might not resume until August, but it’s yet to be seen if UEFA rules will permit player to play for their clubs even after their contracts have expired by July 1.
