Sorry Spurs as Sarri ready to complete deal and nail down £25 million Tottenham star for Chelsea

Reports have emerged and now claimed Chelsea are looking to sign Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld during the summer transfer window for a cut-priced fee.

Despite the Blues facing a transfer ban, boss Maurizio Sarri will look to delve into his transfer kitty over the summer transfer window in order to try and acquire the type of players that would come in and improve the squad, with Alderweireld linked with a move.

It is no secret that Alderweireld has failed to agree a new contract with Tottenham with reports suggesting Spurs are not willing to meet his wage demands, with many media outlets reporting he has become frustrated at the clubs inability to hand him the type of contract he deserves.

And the Metro reckon Alderweireld, 30, could join Chelsea in the summer – as the Belgians clause stands at £25m, with his contract expiring in July 2020.

Tottenham will not want to sell one of the clubs most consistent performers to one of their top fours rivals, but if Chelsea come calling and activate the £25 million clause that is him Alderweireld’s contract, well there is not much Spurs can do.

The Belgian is not just one of the best central defenders in the Premier League, but he is one of the best defenders in Europe right now and with him in the squad, Tottenham look more solid at the back, so not handing him a big contract could be a massive mistake.

Spurs want to compete with the big boys of Europe, and are doing a pretty good job of it so far, but if they want to take that next stage they need to have world class players in the squad, and they command a big-time wage.

Chelsea know that Alderweireld would be an absolute bargain for £25 million, and the fact that he is already proven in the Premier league makes this chase a no-brainer. He is just the type of player that would come in and improve the Blues back-line immensely.

There are a whole bunch of clubs chasing the Belgian, but whomever offer him the biggest wage will be the club that gets a deal done.
