Tammy Abraham receives strong warning despite goal against Newcastle United

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has been warned he will be dropped from the starting XI despite his goal against Newcastle when Christian Pulisic becomes fit again.

Abraham scored the second and final goal of the afternoon during the Blues’ 2-0 win at Newcastle United on Saturday to register his fifth goal contribution in eight Premier League appearances this season.

“Undroppable? Timo Werner is undroppable. But I think he’s making himself a really good squad player,” Former Manchester United and City midfielder Owen Hargreaves told Premier League Productions following the final whistle.

“I think he got 15 [goals] last season. I don’t think he gets enough credit for his overall game.

“I love the fact of his size, technically I think he’s better than people give him credit for.

“He is getting goals but I think when Frank gets his best team nailed down it’ll be Ziyech on one side, Pulisic on the other, and then Werner through the middle [with] Havertz and Mount [behind].

“I think that’s going to be his best team. But Tammy is going to be really important as a squad player.”

Meanwhile, Abraham revealed after the game against Sheffield United before the international break that he is happy to be back in the starting XI after starting the season on the bench.

Abraham said: “I am over the moon to be back in the team.

“I am playing with great players and the new signings have been a breath of fresh air. We are starting to understand how each other plays and we are getting results.

“We have brought in new players and we are understanding each other more. We have self-belief now, the belief is back, the confidence is back and we hope we can keep it going.”
