‘This chapter is finally over’: Chelsea top target completely rules out Bayern move

Former Bayern Munich player has defended Timo Werner’s decision to not join his old team.

In a column for Sky Sports, Lothar Matthaus says on the matter: “The discussion about whether Timo Werner or Leroy Sané would be best suited for Bayern has been going on for quite some time.

“Werner has now decided to publicly distance himself from Bayern. I can understand his reaction. This back and forth is damaging to him and his performances.

“Since he extended his contract in Leipzig and was able to concentrate, he has been outstanding.”

The World Cup-winning captain added: “Now he has let it be known that he would be more inclined to move abroad than to Bayern, and I think that means that this chapter is finally over. Otherwise, both parties would lose their credibility.”

Werner recently came out and said that he would prefer a challenge to a foreign league rather than moving to Bayern. His words combined with Matthaus’ opinion on the topic make one thing clear – if Werner leaves RB Leipzig, he is going to move to another league.

Chelsea have been linked with the Germany international: back in March, they were claimed to have made a ‘direct contact’ with his camp. Liverpool are the club most often mentioned as Werner’s potential destination, but it’s not that simple: as per The Guardian, the Reds are yet to decide whether they’ll make a formal approach for the striker at all.
