‘Trying to convert himself to a CB’- Many Chelsea fans slam’clownery’from rarely-seen veteran after Leicester draw

Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero was handed his first Premier League start of the season this afternoon but his performance did not go down well with a number of Blues supporters.

The Argentine veteran kept his place in the side from last week’s FA Cup win at Hull and was preferred to regular first choice Kepa Arrizabalaga for today’s 2-2 draw at Leicester. He ended the match with two saves to his name, including a fine stop to deny Jamie Vardy in the 25th minute, although he would not have been pleased with the role he played in one of the Foxes’ goals.

With the teams level at 1-1 in the 64th minute, the 38-year-old charged out of his goal to chase down a Ben Chilwell cross, only to be forced into a hasty retreat when Youri Tielemans got to the ball first and provided the delivery for Chilwell to finish to the net. [via The Guardian]

Joshua Jones of The Sun described that fateful error from the Chelsea ‘keeper as “a rush of blood”, while Football London‘s Oliver Harbord called it “a pretty shocking moment”.

These Blues fans on Twitter also took aim at Caballero following his display at the King Power Stadium, with one accusing him of indulging in “clownery” after his error for Chilwell’s goal:

@bread_man said: “Caballero guaranteed a screaming save and a shocking error every game. Don’t disagree with dropping Kepa in in principle but you have to accept that Caballero will cost at least 1 goal every 2 games #CFC #LEICHE”
