Inevitably then, all the attention was on the youngsters who got their chance in the first team. Chief among them was Billy Gilmour, playing his first game since the spring – and he didn’t disappoint.
One moment in particular saw him turn one way and then the other between Krasnodar players, slipping away like a wriggling eel as four of them closed in. Wonderful stuff.
