Messi hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons in the summer after it was revealed they he had handed in a transfer request to leave the club after the Spaniards failed to pick up any silverware by the end of the season.
The likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City have all been credited with moves for the player, as they are the only three clubs in the Premier League that can even come close to paying his sky high wages.
However, despite all the talks that he was leaving the club, ultimately he opened up and revealed that he would see out his current deal which ends in 2021 as he did not want to take Barcelona through the courts in order to get a move away from the club.
But there is still talk that he will leave Barcelona at the end of the season, with the Premier League his preferred destination, and Chelsea are one of only a few clubs that would be able to pay his massive £600,000-a-week contract.
According to Spanish football expect Guillem Balague, Chelsea could be among the clubs to chase Messi’s signature, Speaking on his YouTube channel, Balague said: “Chelsea are definitely in the equation if Messi becomes available. That is true.
Chelsea will insist they want to hear everything that is going on.
“If they have the money they will want to be involved too. Remember, there is no transfer fee.”
Chelsea, United and City all have the money to get a deal done, so as we said, it will be interesting to see just what happens.
But do Chelsea fans really want to see the 33-year old make the move to London? he is coming towards the back end of his top-level playing days and is not even getting the kind of numbers at Barcelona that he was just last season.
