Willian confirms noble gesture to Higuain: ‘I wanted him to score first goal’

Willian was seen persuading the newcomer Gonzalo Higuain to take the penalty in the Sunday’s FA Cup 3-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday, an offer the Argentinian had to reject out of humility. Instead, the Brazilian himself took it and gave the Blues the lead.

After the final whistle, Willian confirmed: ”I gave him (Higuain) the ball. Yeah (I wanted him to take it). I wanted him to score his first goal. But it will come soon.”

He admits he already quite understands Gonazlo on the pitch: ”We have a great relationship.

We know each other inside the pitch, we know the quality of the players we have in front and we have a lot of technical players. So it’s great when you have players like Higuain, Odoi, Hazard, Pedro, Giroud.”

Chelsea could still be drawn against both Manchester clubs still in the competition as he added:

”We have a chance. We know it won’t be easy but we have to continue in the same way to try to win the final. We go to fight against every team.”

He concluded: ”I like all the competitions. I like to score goals. It was a good game for us and we deserved to go to the next round.”
