Chelsea are very confident about their chances to sign Borussia Dortmund starlet Jadon Sancho. According to Goal’s reporter Nizaar Kinsella, the Blues feel they are the favourites to secure the deal ahead of Manchester United.
It is also reported that Chelsea are ready to break their transfer record in pursuit of the attacker. The Blues hierarchy are willing to offer even more than £72m – the sum they paid for Kepa Arrizabalaga in the summer of 2018.
Manchester United are prepared to pay even more for Sancho -up to €140m (£119m/$155m). However, their hopes to sign him are significantly hampered by their position in the race for the Champions League spot.
However, Chelsea have a sizeable chance to lure Jadon in due to his and Callum Hudson-Odoi’s long-time friendship. Both Hudson-Odoi and Sancho grew up in south London, but as the latter moved first to Manchester City and then to Germany, the former is still with his boyhood club.
“We have known each other since we were very young,” Hudson-Odoi said about Sancho. “We used to play against each other and we were always close friends.”
It also appears that Jadon Sancho has been a passionate Chelsea fan in the past, or so his old Twitter account would suggest.
Old Sancho’s account has been unearthed recently and it shows how much the player actually enjoyed Chelsea’s triumph in the Europe League back in 2013.
