According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are trying to sign Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Lemar on loan until the end of the season. Meanwhile, Frank Lampard’s men have not had the brightest of seasons so far after failing to capitalize on the earlier success. The youngsters did exceptionally well in the beginning but as games kept coming fast, their inconsistency began to pop up.
One of the chief reasons for their inconsistency was their inability to sign new players last year due to the two-window transfer ban imposed on them, which has been halved now by the CAS. Eden Hazard’s departure to Spain left a huge void in their attacking ranks, but despite that, the manager led the team well with the available players.
At the moment, the Blues’ midfield is the only area where there are quality players with immense experience under their belts in the likes of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, and Jorginho. However, the defence has struggled without a solid partnership and the attacking department has very few regular players. Therefore, with the ban uplifted and the transfer market open to conduct business, Lampard must prioritize strengthening the forward line. And Thomas Lemar would be a suitable candidate at Stamford Bridge.
A left-winger by trade, the Frenchman has proved himself to be capable of performing in the opposite flank and as an attacking midfielder. He could be a better upgrade to Willian and Pedro on the wings, with the latter being of favour under the manager.
Mason Mount is the only creative player available at Lampard’s disposal and as he is too young, he cannot be depended upon week in and week out. In this area, Lemar can work wonders has he had previously been successful at, while in Monaco.
A versatile player, Lemar possesses a great left foot that can effectively break open the opponent’s defensive line. He is capable of supplying a mix of accurate crosses and well-timed passes which are evident from the fact that he provided 10 assists in 34 Ligue 1 games when Monaco lifted the title. His dribbling abilities are peculiar as he can switch between both feet equally and can wrong-foot defenders with ease. He has been a creative hub for Monaco and that ability can be effective for Chelsea if they manage to make a deal for him.
With enough experience under his belt, the 25-year-old has evolved to become a team player rather than doing things on his own. A threat from set-piece situations, Lemar’s technical ability has made him the definition of a playmaker, who can equally score at a decent rate.
