Frank Lampard has been given a welcome boost with the news that Antonio Rudiger is prepared to return to the first-team action.

The German defender has been sidelined since April with a knee injury following Chelsea’s 1-1 draw when visiting Manchester United.

The Blues’ back line has been decimated since Brazil international David Luiz joined Arsenal and Gary Cahill moved to another London rival Crystal Palace following his release.

Frank Lampard has paired Andreas Christensen with Kurt Zouma so far this season, but the pair have looked shaky as the Blues have shipped seven goals in their opening three Premier League games.

Antonio Rudiger played 90 minutes in Chelsea’s U23 clash with Liverpool.

While the centre-back may have to accept a place on the bench against the newly-promoted side.

Frank Lampard will be desperate to give him some playing time as he’s considered the first choice at centre-back.

Frank Lampard’s decision to allow David Luiz to join rivals Arsenal raised some eyebrows, but he’s been clear with members of his team who are deemed surplus to requirements.
