Mason Mount gives positive injury update ahead of Liverpool clash

Mason Mount is hopeful of being fit for Chelsea’s clash against Liverpool on Sunday after suffering an ankle injury in the defeat to Valencia on Tuesday evening.

Frank Lampard’s side were beaten 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in their Champions League Group H opener while Mount was forced off after just 16 minutes following a heavy challenge from former Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin.

But the 20-year-old was positive after the defeat to Valencia as he told reporters that was hopeful of being available for the game against Liverpool.

Francis Coquelin followed through on Mason Mount’s right ankle (BT Sport) Mount was walking with a limp but was not aided by crutches and his right foot was not in a protective boot.

Lampard, meanwhile, was unable to confirm whether Mount would be fit for the visit of the Champions League holders.

‘He has got an ankle injury which we don’t know how bad it is,’ Lampard said after Tuesday night’s defeat.
