Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has revealed just why Callum Hudson-Odoi chose to stay at Chelsea during the summer transfer window.
However, Hudson-Odoi burst onto the scene last season under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri and firmly became one of the most talked about players at Chelsea, with his pace, skill and final delivery prompting many to believe that he could eventually become one of the best players in the game right now.
His performances for Chelsea led to alot of transfer speculation in the media suggesting that Bayern Munich were keen to take him to the Bundesliga, but Chelsea rejected multiple bids earlier this year for the 19-year-old winger, who is tipped to be the long-term replacement for Eden Hazard.
But Lampard’s appointment as head coach in July breathed new life into the negotiations and Hudson-Odoi signed a new five-year deal in September, ending all speculation on his future, and Rudiger that had a huge influence on Hudson-Odoi’s decision to remain at Stamford Bridge.
‘Of course he asked me about Bayern Munich back them,’ Rudiger told Sport Bild. ‘I told him that it was of course a great club. ‘The transfer ban and the departure of Eden Hazard, which we had been expecting for a long time, made it clear that Callum would get more appearances.’
Look Hudson-Odoi was in the headlines for all the wrong reasons and Chelsea were very close to losing him in the summer, so the fact that he stayed and is now a big part of the Chelsea means that the future looks bright for the Blues.
And maybe Odoi is the next Hazard? if Lampard can manage to get the very best out of his talented winger, who has struggled for form at the beginning of this season. Hudson Odoi is the future, and it was the right decision not to leave for Bayern in the summer.
